BUCHAREST

Without a doubt, one of the most impressive cities among the 8 cities where ATENOR is developing projects. Thanks to its rich historical past, Bucharest hides a lot of abandoned and impressive places, both by their size, their architecture and what they have become over time.

BUCHAREST – Chimopar

Chimopar is the oldest chemicals factory in Bucharest and was once a gunpowder manufacturer. Privatized in 1999, most of the factory’s buildings were abandoned and left to decay. The factory is located outside the city center of Bucharest and is a difficult place to access. As in most abandoned places, local graffiti artists have come to leave their marks. Although not open to the public, the abandoned chemical plant is a paradise for Urban Art.

BUCHAREST – Bulevardul Unirii

On the Unirii Boulevard there is a vast abandoned site of several hectares where the former dictator Ceausescu planned to build the biggest cultural centre of Romania. This project, which was to host Romanian opera, was abandoned after the revolution. Since then, it has been a political tool used by mayoral candidates during an election campaign. That is where the real estate project of nearly one billion euros, Esplanada, should have been created but it was also abandoned later. The huge pit of the derelict construction site reveals impressive secret cubes covered with stunning Street Art.
